Req is a batteries-included HTTP client for Elixir.

With just a couple lines of code:

Mix.install([

we get automatic response body decoding, following redirects, retrying on errors, and much more. Virtually all of the features are broken down into individual pieces called steps. You can easily re-use and re-arrange built-in steps and write new ones.

New Internals in Req v0.8

Req v0.8 contains revamped internals. Most end-users should be unaffected, but if you're using custom steps or plugins, response and error steps are now deprecated in favour of step wrappers. Check out "Steps & Step Wrappers" section in Req.Request module documentation for more information.

Usage

The easiest way to use Req is with Mix.install/2:

Here's an example POST with JSON data:

iex> Req.post!("https://httpbingo.org/post", json: %{x: 1, y: 2}).body["json"]

You can stream request body:

iex> stream = Stream.duplicate("foo", 3)
iex> Req.post!("https://httpbingo.org/post", body: stream, headers: [content_type: "text/plain"]).body["data"]
"foofoofoo"

and stream the response with a callback function:

If you are planning to make several similar requests, you can build up a request struct with desired common options and re-use it:

Virtually all of Req's features are broken down into individual pieces -- steps. You can easily reuse or rearrange built-in steps or write new ones. Here is another example where we append a request step that inspects the URL just before requesting it:
